Remote Viewing

From behind the cloak of U.S. military secrecy comes the story of "STAR GATE," the project that for nearly a quarter of a century trained soldiers and civilian spies in extra-sensory perception - ESP - to search out the secrets of America's Cold War enemies. Using a skill called "remote viewing," agencies of the United States government directed these psychic soldiers to spy on targets in the Soviet Union and elsewhere, gaining information unavailable through any other means. Army Major Paul H. Smith was one of these "viewers." Assigned to the remote viewing unit in 1983 at a pivotal time in its history, Smith served for the rest of the decade, witnessing and taking part in many of the seminal national security crises of the 20th Century.

Remote viewing is a novel perceptual discipline for gaining information not available to the ordinary physical senses. Used extensively by so-called "psychic spies" during the Cold War for classified military projects, it has a long history both as an intelligence gathering tool and as the subject of research and applications in the civilian world. Remote viewing has now taken a long step into the public domain with the formation of a professional association to propose standards, test performance, and promote peaceful use and development of this unique human mental capacity.

Alternative Archeology

Any time you allege a conspiracy is afoot, especially in the field of science, you are treading on thin ice. We tend to be very skeptical about conspiracies--unless the Mafia or some Muslim radicals are behind the alleged plot. But the evidence is overwhelming and the irony is that much of it is in plain view.
The good news is that the players are obvious. Their game plan and even their play-by-play tactics are transparent, once you learn to spot them. However, it is not so easy to penetrate through the smokescreen of propaganda and disinformation to get to their underlying motives and goals. It would be convenient if we could point to a plumber's unit and a boldface liar like Richard Nixon, but this is a more subtle operation.
The bad news: the conspiracy is global and there are many vested interest groups. A cursory investigation yields the usual suspects: scientists with a theoretical axe to grind, careers to further and the status quo to maintain. Their modus operandi is "The Big Lie"--and the bigger and more widely publicized, the better. They rely on invoking their academic credentials to support their arguments, and the presumption is that no one has the right to question their authoritarian pronouncements that:
1. there is no mystery about who built the Great Pyramid or what the methods of construction were, and the Sphinx shows no signs of water damage;
2. there were no humans in the Americas before 20,000 BC;
3. the first civilization dates back no further than 6000 BC;
4. there are no documented anomalous, unexplained or enigmatic data to take into account;
5. there are no lost or unaccounted-for civilizations.
Let the evidence to the contrary be damned!

Pyramid Wars

A challenge by two plucky French amateurs to Egypt's self-styled 'guardian of the pharaohs' has unearthed a scandal of ambition, greed, pride and television ratings in archaeology's top echelons.
Zahi Hawass is one of the most powerful men in history - at least of archaeology - and he is angry. The 57-year-old is secretary general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities but, as any Egyptologist will tell you, this is the least of his titles. The self-styled guardian of the pharaohs, commonly referred to as the "Big Zee", is the minder of 4,000 years of history, 500 kings, scores of legends, thousands of tourists, and hundreds of competing archaeologists.

Artifacts and Living History

The Egyptian government established the ‘Service des Antiques de l’Egypte’ in 1835 mainly to halt the plundering of archeological sites and to arrange the exhibition of the collected artifacts owned by the government. The Azbakian garden in Cairo was first used as a storage place for these artifacts. The collection was later transferred to another building in the citadel of Saladin.

In 1858, a museum was prepared at Boulaq, its contents collected by the French archeologist August Mariette. In 1880, the contents of the Boulaq museum was transferred to an annex of the Giza palace of Ismail pasha, the ruler of Egypt.

Warbirds

News Flash:
Another Political Threat to Warbirds In the USA
A provision in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2005 would ban any U.S. citizen from engaging in any activity "that disturbs, removes or injures any sunken military craft," including airplanes. This could halt efforts to remove old aircraft wrecks and restore them to airworthy condition.
Over the last two decades, a number of historic aircraft have been recovered from various underwater locations, often at great personal expense to the individuals or groups involved. In most cases, the Department of Defense has shown little or no interest in such activities, or in the aircraft -- and has certainly never endeavored to recover and restore such aircraft themselves. Why they have decided to change this stance is beyond any rational person's understanding.
Thus, it is once again time for the historical, archeological and warbird communities to fight this legislation so it does not become law.

A boatswain's pipe alerts the visitor to "Mail Call" and is part of the din aboard a "Jeep" carrier. While mechanics work on a Douglas "Dauntless" dive bomber in the hangar bay, visitors can pass through a Ready Room, Sick Bay, living spaces and the always popular ship's store - the "geedunk" - where the crew purchased small items from razor blades to soft drinks. Everything, from Glider Shave Cream to Mars candy bars, is 1943 vintage. So real, one can almost feel the deck roll! The Hangar Bay exhibit is located on the second deck in the West Wing, next to the South Pacific Exhibit. Come and see the living conditions of our sailors aboard aircraft carriers!
